I am not a servent, nor am I yours and yours alone. If you see me waiting on another patron, helping out a customer and running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, please don't whistle at me, or call out "Hey You" I am wearing a name tag, and feel free to read it...My Name Is Jen.
And I LOVE my job. I always have. I work with all the local public, I see everyone from young children to grandparents, business owners, to white colar workers. I love that I get to watch relationships grow, children get older and see families enjoying a meal together.
They say (who are they?) that wait staff have one of the most stressful jobs out there, compareable to an air traffic controller. We have to keep the customers happy, the kitchen staff happy and do it all with a smile...all in hopes for a tip at the end of your meal. I don't find my job stressful. Yes, it gets busy...but I thrive under pressure. I love it when I'm flipping tables twice per hour. It's great for the restaurant, and even better for me. And no matter what, when I wait on you...you will get the best service I can give.
I plan to go deep into the life of a waitress. It has been a big part of my life since my parents opened their first restaurant when I was 12. It is a very well paying job, that does more than just pay the bills...It opens doors for future career opportunities, teaches you time management skills and trains you on how to deal with all types of people.
If being a waitress is something you've thought of as a way to earn extra money, stay tuned. I'll be posting all the tips and tricks I've learned in my 18 years of restaurant life over the next little while, as a part of my new pet project....I'm writing a book!
